BrabantKennis explores the future of Brabant. This think tank of the province of North Brabant helps provincial policymakers to better understand Brabant. BrabantKennis connects knowledge with policy and Brabant’s unique character, making it accessible and relevant to politics, government, and society. Not by romanticizing the past, but by looking far ahead, bringing trends closer, and broadening our view of what already surrounds us. Because you don’t have to wait for the future—you can actively shape it.

BrabantKennis is currently working on the exploratory study ‘Deciding without understanding’ about the impact of AI on Brabant. AI is becoming increasingly prevalent in our daily lives and in the way we make choices. This is happening so quickly that we may no longer fully understand what exactly is happening and how it works. Yet we are relying more and more on algorithms – from simple chatbots to support for mental health issues. But who decides whether this is responsible? What ethical boundaries do we set for ourselves?

BrabantKennis investigated how residents and administrators in Brabant feel about AI. Do they see it as an opportunity or a threat? Where do their doubts and dilemmas lie? During this session, Jos van den Broek (BrabantKennis) and Katja Nagelkerke (Het PON & Telos) will share the most important insights and engage in conversation with you.

Because—deciding without understanding: are we already doing that? And if so, how does that actually feel?
